Engineered Invisibility

The Danger

Engineered Invisibility occurs when your message is so ambiguous that AI categorizes you as a risk and excludes you from recommendations entirely.

What Causes It

  • Jargon Overload: Marketing-speak that obscures actual function
  • Vague Positioning: “We help businesses succeed” tells AI nothing
  • Conflicting Signals: Website says X, reviews say Y, press says Z
  • Category Confusion: AI can’t determine what you actually do

The AI Logic

AI Decision: “I’m 60% confident Company A does this, but 95% confident Company B does. Recommending A is a risk I won’t take, even if A might be better.”

The Test

Ask yourself: Can a 12-year-old explain what your company does in one sentence after reading your homepage? If not, AI can’t either.

The Fix

Implement a Core Meaning Protocol—distill your essence into four unambiguous statements:

  1. What category we belong to
  2. What specific pain we eliminate
  3. For whom we solve this
  4. Why our method is superior

Clarity isn’t dumbing down—it’s respecting your audience’s (and AI’s) time.
